Pre-Conference Check-in

Check in with the National Campus Leadership Council (NCLC) at the Hilton Washington DC National Mall.
Pre-Conference Welcome
3:00 PM - 4:00 PM
Join NCLC staff and fellow student leaders for an introduction to kick off the PLS 2019 Pre-Conference with introductions, goal setting, and more. The session is designed for first-time PLS attendees.

Get the 101 on PLS
4:00 PM - 6:00 PM
Policy 101: Wonder how to more effectively advance change on your campus and at the federal policy level. Get the exclusive on the skills and policy knowledge you’ll need to advocate for fellow students.
Skills 101: Learn more about skills to enhance your leadership - from project planning to communications. Select two 30 minute skills sessions of your choice.

Campus Legacy Awards
6:30 PM - 8:00 PM
The annual Campus Legacy Awards program honors students and student allies who are making a difference on college campuses through advocacy and awareness efforts.

This plenary session will start the day with a robust campus quickfire session where you’ll share new information, connections, and ideas with fellow student leaders. You'll have the chance to workshop new project ideas and explore team action planning. The session will include the following:

Institutional Curriculum
3:00 PM - 5:00 PM
How are decisions made at your institution? How do you build relationships with institutional leaders?
Choose a skills session to learn more about ways to develop your voice as a student leader at your institution.
Connector Expo
5:00 PM - 7:30 PM
This 2-hour fair-style event will feature several graduate programs, employers, and advocacy groups. Students will be able to meet graduate school recruiters, as well as higher education and student advocates, to get the tools they need in order to be a successful student leader on campus and well after.

Meet with your assigned group of fellow student body presidents and members of the PLS 2019 Steering Committee to discuss solutions for major policy issues.

Policy Sessions
9:30 AM - 12:15 PM
Explore the issues and themes driving higher ed policy today. These expert-led sessions will empower student leaders with the information to be effective advocates on a wide range of issues that affect students' lives and wellbeing.

Lunch Roundtables
12:30 PM - 1:30 PM
Choose a topic and engage in a lunchtime conversation with other student leaders.



Case Studies and Hands-On Application
1:45 PM - 4:30 PM
Apply the institutional skills and policy knowledge garnered at PLS to develop solutions to a set of case studies.
Action Planning
4:45 PM - 6:15 PM
Rejoin your group to develop an action plan to employ after PLS.
Dinner & Keynote
6:30 PM - 9:00 PM
Enjoy dinner and a keynote speaker to wrap up the day.
