Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What does the registration fee cover?
A: The 2019 registration fee covers event meals, materials, access to the Campus Legacy Awards, and access to the Connector Expo. It does NOT cover the cost of travel or accommodations.
Q: What is “PLS Pre-Conference?” What does registration cover?
A: We’re glad you asked! The PLS curriculum has soared to a new level this year and we want to make sure the you are equipped with the necessary skills and understanding to absorb the new information. This conference is an opportunity for leaders, new and returning, to get a jumpstart on networking and developing strategies for resolving complex case studies. It also provides an overview of major policies impacting higher education today so it is a great opportunity for attendees whose schools have never attended PLS previously to get an introduction as well as great for returning schools to catch up on what has happened in the past year.
The ticket price for this event includes meals and materials for the pre-conference and a special PLS survival kit. It does NOT cover the cost of travel or accommodations.
Q: How do I make my hotel reservation?
A: We have reserved a hotel room block with the Hilton National Mall DC - a beautiful location near the Wharf. Because NCLC will be managing guest registration for the hotel, we have heavily discounted room rates for those who purchase early. Those rates are listed below and include applicable taxes and fees. Please note that the purchase of any luxury items such as parking and room service are at the expense of the attendee. To make your reservation, simply select the appropriate hotel discount and apply the number of nights you will need the reservation as the quantity.
If you would like to purchase with the hotel directly, you may do so by contacting them at 202-484-1000. The price to book directly with the hotel is $199\night plus taxes and fees.
NCLC’s hotel discount for three nights is $339.00 plus taxes and fees.
Q: Can I bring more people from my school with me?
A: Yes and no. We budget two spaces per school and strongly encourage each school to send their incoming and outgoing student body presidents. Part of our goal is to help facilitate that transition of student leadership and capture as much institutional memory as possible. That said, it is common for incoming presidents to bring their vice president if their outgoing student body president cannot join. If you wish to bring others, please contact email@example.com, as we are aware that unique circumstances exist, such as co-presidencies or fall election cycles, in which case we allow multiple presidential candidates to attend.
Q: What if I cannot afford to come?
A: Please send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org! It is critical to our mission that this opportunity is available to all students, regardless of financial ability. We typically have a limited number of travel scholarships that will help defray the cost to travel to DC, and in some cases we are able to waive or reduce the registration fee. Students have traditionally been able to fund their participation through their student government budgets or by finding a university office to sponsor their participation.
Q: What if my successor hasn’t been elected yet?
A: We encourage you to register for two spots as early as possible. This helps us with planning and ensures there will be space for your college to be represented (space is limited). When you register, please use “TBD” for the required registration fields for which you don’t yet have information. We will reach out in mid-May to confirm and request final information about attendees.
